Operation
Bypass mode
SBP bypass mode enables connected equipment to operate on utility power while UPS maintenance is
performed.
Note: Connected equipment is not protected by the UPS while the SBP is in bypass mode.
UPS mode
While the SBP operates in UPS mode, power is supplied to connected equipment from the UPS and is
protected from power variations and disturbances.
Troubleshooting
Use the table to solve minor installation and operation problems.
Refer to the APC Web site, www.apc.com for assistance with complex problems.
Problem and/or Possible Cause
Solution
The UPS is on, and the SBP output receptacles
do not provide power to connected equipment.
1. Some models have equipment outlet circuit breakers. Remove
nonessential equipment connected to the SBP. Reset the SBP
circuit breaker.
2. Verify the utility power supply. Plug a table lamp into the utility
power source. If the light is dim or does not turn on, have the
building utility voltage checked by a qualified electrician.
3. Verify the power supply from the UPS. Plug a table lamp into the
output receptacle on the UPS.
4. Verify that the SBP is functioning properly.
a. Disconnect the UPS from the SBP (input and output).
b. Plug the service bypass panel UPS output cord to the service
bypass panel input receptacle.
c. Plug a table lamp into the SBP equipment outlets to verify
functionality of each outlet.
d. To test the SBP rotate the Bypass/UPS switch to bypass mode
position. The lamp should remain illuminated. Rotate the
Bypass/UPS switch to UPS mode position. The lamp should
remain illuminated.
5. If power does not return, the SBP is defective. Contact APC. Refer
to “Service” on page 7 in this user manual.
