PowerDeck shelves: Instructions
®
990-9070 Rev 1 Page 2 of 8 May 2001
1. Safety
1.1 Warnings
1.1.1 General
When installing the power shelf it is important to observe these installation instructions, in addition:
The requirements of the specification IEC950 / EN60950 must be met.
All local and national wiring regulations for connection to the supply must be met.
There are no user serviceable parts contained in this equipment and all installation and maintenance must be
performed by qualified service personnel.
1.1.2 Mains supply
PowerDeck shelves are suitable for wiring to TN-S power supply systems. Suitable power systems include:
single phase, two wire 230V with protective earth
single phase, three wire 110V/220V with protective earth
three phase, three wire 208V with protective earth
three phase, four wire 415V with protective earth.
All the above power systems must be 50Hz or 60Hz nominal. For safety and correct operation, the shelf must be
wired in accordance with the information provided in section 3 of this instruction book.
1.1.3 High leakage current
The earth leakage current from this equipment exceeds 3.5mA; the earth connection must be made prior to
connecting to the supply.
1.1.4 Energy hazard
The output power is greater than 240VA. Potentially lethal voltages and sources of energy are present on the
busbars and PCB tracking that is exposed when the back panel is removed for shelf installation and wiring.
Ensure that all supplies are switched off and tested for zero voltage before installation or maintenance is started.
1.1.5 SELV
The output of rectifiers MRF14H54#N** and MRF17H54#N** exceed SELV limits (>60V d.c.) The output of
all other rectifiers is reliably SELV. The character # may represent A or B or D, the * characters represent any
suffixes added to indicate variants of the standard product (e.g. different factory settings or variants of the signals
functions).
1.1.6 Weight
The mass of the laden unit exceeds 10kg therefore the laden unit presents a hazard due to mass. The
Manual Handling of Loads Regulations 1993 require that all person working on the equipment are familiar with
the Regulations , that they take care to minimise risk of injury to themselves or others, that they are properly
trained, and that the correct equipment is used.
1.2 Caution
Double pole / neutral fusing is used in the rectifiers.
1.3 The CE Mark
This power shelf is CE marked to the European Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 73/23/EEC amended by 93/68/EEC,
relating to the Safety of Electrical Equipment. This power shelf is designed for incorporation within apparatus. For
user safety, the enclosing apparatus must protect the user against accidental contact with any electrical hazard,
cooling fans etc associated with the power shelf.
