7.9 FAQ and Error messages
During use:
(Linux) How to use Network Shutdown Module system tray with Gnome?
The NSM systray isn’t displayed in Gnome. Some older versions of Gnome do not allow to automate
NSM Systray launch minimized to the tray on login on Gnome. To do so manually :
• Open up your GNOME menu,
• Select Preferences followed by Sessions. Switch to the Startup programs tab,
• Click Add and enter “<Installation directory>/bin/netsystray/mgeNetSystray” as the
startup command,
• Click OK and you're done.
To stop NSM Systray from loading upon login, simply remove its entry from the startup programs listing.
(Linux) I’m running WindowMaker or XFCE. Can I use the NSM system tray?
Yes, you can use the systray icon, using:
• wmsystray (http://freshmeat.net/projects/wmsystray/) for WindowMaker,
• xfce4-systray for XFCE.
(Linux) The menu or the systray are missing
Some desktop or windows manager do not provide a way to register menus with sub menu
• Solution 1:
copy the NSM menu files to your desktop
$ cp <installpath>/desktop/*.menu ~/Desktop
• Solution 2:
Bookmark the NSM Supervision Page in your favorite Internet Browser,
> https://< name or IP address of computer hosting NSM>:4680/mgeups/
> or http://< name or IP address of computer hosting NSM>:4679/mgeups/
and call the uninstall from the command line using
<Installation directory>/packaging/nsmInstaller –uninstall
• Solution 3:
Add the menu entries using your favorite menu editor
Entry 1: name : Supervision
: cmd : <Installation directory>/packaging/nsmInstaller –openURL <URL>
with <URL>
> https://< name or IP address of computer hosting NSM>:4680/mgeups/
> or http://< name or IP address of computer hosting NSM>:4679/mgeups/
Entry 2: name : Uninstall
: cmd : <Installation directory>/packaging/nsmInstaller –uninstall
