InRow RD 100-Series and InRow RD 200-Series User’s Guide33
Select naming to define the host name and domain name of the InRow RD:
Host Name: After you configure a host name here and a domain name in the Domain Name
field, users can enter a host name in any field in the InRow RD interface (except e-mail
addresses) that accepts a domain name.
Domain Name: You need to configure the domain name here only. In all other fields in the
InRow RD interface (except e-mail addresses) that accept domain names, the InRow RD adds
this domain name when only a host name is entered.
To override all instances of the expansion of a specified host name by the addition of the
domain name, set the domain name field to its default, somedomain.com, or to
0.0.0.0.
To override the expansion of a specific host name entry (or example, when defining a trap
receiver) include a trailing period. The InRow RD recognizes a host name with a trailing
period (such as mySnmpServer.) as if it were a fully qualified domain name and does
not append the domain name.
Select test to send a DNS query that tests the setup of your DNS servers:
–As Query Type, select the method to use for the DNS query:
by Host: the URL name of the server
by FQDN: the fully qualified domain name
by IP: the IP address of the server
by MX: the Mail Exchange used by the server
–As Query Question, identify the value to be used for the selected query type:
View the result of the test DNS request in the Last Query Response field.
Query Type Selected Query Question to Use
by Host The URL
by FQDN The fully qualified domain name,
my_server.my_domain.
by IP The IP address
by MX The Mail Exchange address
