4. Customer Wiring
4.1 AC Connection
Each rectifier position in the shelf is provided with a separate two way terminal block for the AC mains connection
mounted on the rectifier's backplane board. This board is illustrated in figure 4.1, where SK4 is the AC mains
connection terminal block, and the connections are labelled AC1 and AC2. The terminal blocks should be wired
with 16AWG UL wire (1.3mm
2
) in accordance with table 4.1.

A 4mm stud is provided for the earth connections.
Table 4.1
The shelf is designed for 50/60Hz systems. Referring to table 4.1, if the shelf is wired as type 1, live and neutral
are taken to AC1 and AC2 respectively. If the shelf is wired as type 2 (centre-tapped 220V), the two lives are
taken to AC1 and AC2 respectively. If the shelf is wired as type 3, the load should be distributed across phases,
L1 and L2 to rectifier 1 (AC1 and AC2), L2 and L3 to rectifier 2, L3 and L1 to rectifier 3 etc. If the shelf is wired as
type 4, the load should be distributed across phases, L1 and N to rectifier 1 (AC1 and AC2), L2 and N to rectifier
2, L3 and N to rectifier 3 etc.
AC1 and AC2 wiring must not be daisy chained between terminal blocks. Each rectifier must have its supply
wiring taken from its backplane board to a distribution panel adjacent to the shelf. This wiring should be inserted
in the cable clips provided in the rear of the shelf, and should exit the shelf via the protected holes on the right
side as illustrated in figure 3.1.
An external electrical disconnect device must be provided. This device must disconnect all live poles of the
power supply to the shelf. External fusing must be provided by the user as part of the shelf installation. Each
16AWG wire (feeding a backplane board) which is fed from a live pole should be fused at 15A, using a fuse type
which is approved for the local wiring regulations.
Protective earth wiring should be in the range 10mm
2
– 16mm
2
and must be taken directly to the 6mm stud on
the inner panel of the shelf. As the earth leakage current from this equipment exceeds 3.5mA, the earth
connection must be made prior to connecting to the supply
